(POVS)

Tayside

The POVS service was started in Dundee and Angus in 2007. As of 2010 this service will include Perth and Kinross making this a Tayside service.  It is recommended by the Scottish government that all children have their eyes checked in their pre-school year by an orthoptist or someone trained by an orthoptist.

This test replaces the eye tests in Primary 1, the aim being that eye problems in children will be picked up younger and treatment can be started as early as possible. Most common eye problems have a better overall outcome the earlier they are treated.
